Tom takes stock on a non-stop year
Posted on 26/11/2015
2015 has been globetrotting year for Salomon athlete Tom Owens, but it's clear from a recent interview with Euan Crumly that the Glasgow-based runner still loves a good Scottish hill race.
After a season that has seen Tom race across the globe, from Australia, to the US, to Europe and the highlands of Scotland, he also became the Scottish Hill Running champion, an aspect of mountain sport which obviously excites the 34-year old.
"In the UK hill/ fell races still haven’t changed much. There has maybe been a small increase in competitor numbers but they are still brilliantly grassroots and uncommercial with low entry fees, no or small prizes and usually no route markings. However the level of competition in the UK fells is still extremely high. There’s a great hill running scene in Scotland, too. There are heaps of classic races, many of which I still haven’t tried"
