HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH THE SALOMON TRAIL TEAM?
Around 5 years now
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AND GOALS FOR THE 2012 SEASON?
Being a 'soul runner' I dont race so much these days, however my goals are to continue to enjoy my trail running and keep looking for that 'perfect trail'!
YOUR HIGHEST POINT OF YOUR CAREER?
Running for Wales as a junior and then again as a master at cross country - I missed out the senior bit though unfortunately...
AND LOWEST POINT?
Bad injury, unfortunately I seem to have too many these days. But the thought of returning to running my favourite trails again soon spurs me on and the low points dont last too long!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE RACE?
It would have to be Snowdon. It is one of those events that just has an amazing buzz about it. It isnt your archetypal mountain, trail or fell race, but to race to the top of the highest mountain in England and Wales, with TV cameras, 600 runners and 3000 spectators at the finish arena, is very special.
WHAT WAS THE TERRAIN LIKE?
Rocky, fast and breathtaking...
WHAT SALOMON KIT DO YOU GENERALLY USE AND ENJOY THE MOST?
My favourite shoe has to be the Speed Cross, it's the weapon of choice for much of my running. The SC3 is an amazing shoe, really, and I have to say that the brand new XR Mission is really growing on me too. I also love the Fast Wing Hoody, a perfect lightweight all-day jacket for those runs where the weather isnt too harsh...
HOW DO YOU TRAIN DURING THE SEASON?
I run 4-5 times a week, but wouldnt call it training these days. I would call it running, as I never really have a set schedule, I just work the running into my working day and busy family life. In some ways I prefer it to those days when I did 'train' - for me the regime of an athlete can be so structured that you sometimes lose the fun and enjoyment side of things, that's why these days I would prefer to call myself a soul runner!
WHAT WOULDN'T YOU RUN WITHOUT (SHOES DOESN'T COUNT!)
My Suunto watch. I like to know where I am and how long I have been out for, but for sure I am not a slave to the instruments when running.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURTIE TRAINING ROUTE?
The Dyfi Forest. One of the UK's best kept secrets. I can run for days without hitting the same trail or singletrack and literally see no one for weeks whilst out.
IF YOU COULD COMPETE IN ONE LAST RACE – WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Probably something like the UTMB or the Western States 100, just to say that I have done them, but for sheer enjoyment and excitement it would need to be something like the Zegama race or Snowdon!
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRAINING OR RACING PARTNER?
My dog, Molly!
