Ricky Lightfoot a Salomon Trail Team member since 2008 and 2011 winner of the Salomon Kielder Marathon lives in Maryport on the West Coast of Cumbria.
A keen Trail and Mountain runner.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH THE SALOMON TRAIL TEAM?
I've been with the Salomon Trail Team since the end of 2008
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AND GOALS FOR THE 2012 SEASON?
The Salomon Three Peaks Race and Kielder Marathon are the only race's i've picked out so far. I hope to stay injury free and keep enjoying what I'm doing.
YOUR HIGHEST POINT OF YOUR CAREER?
The highest point in my career was probably when I finished 3rd in the World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge in Austria's Kaiser Marathon in 2009 behind winner Marc Lauenstein and Jono Wyatt.
AND LOWEST POINT?
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE RACE?
My favourite race from last year has got to be the Olympus Marathon in Greece.
WHAT WAS THE TERRAIN LIKE?
Mount Olympus or better known as "the mountain of the gods" starts from the remains of the sacred city of Dion, one of the most significant archaeological sites in Greece, running out on the road for 5km climbing from only 3 meters at the start up to just below the summit "Zeus's Throne" at 2800 meters. It has a mixture of terrain from narrow single track to 4x4 tracks, once up at the summit the race meanders down over rough terrain down the valley and follows a small river to 2km from the finish from which the rest is on the road.
WHAT SALOMON KIT DO YOU GENERALLY USE AND ENJOY THE MOST?
I'm never seen without my Speedcross 3's or the Fellcross, nothing beats them for comfort, stability and grip.
HOW DO YOU TRAIN DURING THE SEASON?
Training during racing season is hard because your either recovering from a race or tapering for a race,
I find when racing a lot its easier to listen to your body and train on how you feel, not what you think you should be doing.
WHAT WOULDN'T YOU RUN WITHOUT (SHOES DOESN'T COUNT!)
My Salomon Trail Team Buff and Suunto M5
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURTIE TRAINING ROUTE?
Round the Back O Skiddaw up in the Lake district-it's like nowhere else
IF YOU COULD COMPETE IN ONE LAST RACE – WHAT WOULD IT BE?
It would have to be one of the longer races in the Lakes like Borrowdale or Wasdale Horseshoe.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRAINING OR RACING PARTNER?
Its great to get out and run with the Salomon Trail Team, but living in different parts of the country this can be difficult so only meet up now and again.
My usual training partners live in my hometown and i've raced and trained with them for the last 10 years, Brain Taylor who I still train with now started me off trail running at school.
