HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH THE SALOMON TRAIL TEAM?
I've been with the team since 2005 when it was still evolving and there was a bigger focus on adventure racing. Salomon's development in trail running was also evolving at the same time and has gone from strength to strength since.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AND GOALS FOR THE 2012 SEASON?
Firstly to get fit again (see below) and then to compete in a range of British mountain races and maybe also try some new events.
YOUR HIGHEST POINT OF YOUR CAREER?
Probably winning 3 back to back British Fell Running Championship titles and also running for England and Great Britain at World and European Mountain Running Championships.
AND LOWEST POINT?
A near 3 month lay-off with a bulging disc and hip complications from November 2011 to February 2012
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE RACE?
Possibly Slieve Bearnargh in Northern Ireland for the dramatic scenery and technical terrain.
WHAT WAS THE TERRAIN LIKE?
Really varied from grassy slopes to very steep and rocky!
WHAT SALOMON KIT DO YOU GENERALLY USE AND ENJOY THE MOST?
Speedcross 3, Fellcross and XA Pro 3D Ultra shoes and any of the superb light weight clothing.
HOW DO YOU TRAIN DURING THE SEASON?
Given one needs to maintain good form throughout the year for the long championship season on the mountains I generally keep training fairly consistent although I tend to race less in the winter. Most weeks have steady runs, bike rides, a longer Sunday run and 2 speed/hill sessions.
WHAT WOULDN'T YOU RUN WITHOUT (SHOES DOESN'T COUNT!)
Suunto Quest Watch
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURTIE TRAINING ROUTE?
In terms of local convenience it's a 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour circuit in the West Pennine Moors.
IF YOU COULD COMPETE IN ONE LAST RACE – WHAT WOULD IT BE?
In Britain, probably the Ben Nevis race as I've never managed to get round to it for one reason or another. In Europe, probably Sierre Zinal in Switzerland.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRAINING OR RACING PARTNER?
Any of the Salomon Trail Team or, I'd better say it, any of the Pudsey and Bramley AC boys and gals.
