Mentor in 2013 - Rob Hope

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RUNNING? I have been running since I was 5 years old when my Dad introduced me to fell running. My first race was one of Dave Woodhead’s Haworth quarry races.

YOUR HIGH-POINT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR? The high point of my running career so far is winning the U16 British and Irish Home International in Melmerby, Cumbria. Also, representing England in the World Youth International and finishing 4th was another high point.

AND LOW-POINT? I have been lucky to not have many setbacks with injuries in my career although one low point has been some minor ankle injuries over winter which have stopped me from getting in consistent training through the winter months.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE RACE? My favourite race is Farleton Knott.

WHAT WAS THE TERRAIN LIKE? There is a mixture of different terrains from grassy uphill to steep scree descents.

WHAT SALOMON KIT DO YOU GENERALLY USE AND ENJOY THE MOST? My favourite piece of Salomon of kit is the fast wing jacket because it is a real lightweight piece of kit which protects you from the wind and is great for wearing on long training runs. The shoe I use the most is the Sense Mantra because it is great for all terrains, lightweight and also extremely comfortable.

HOW DO YOU TRAIN DURING THE SEASON? During the season I will usually train four to five times a week mainly with my club Wharfedale Harriers.

WHAT WOULDN'T YOU RUN WITHOUT (SHOES DON'T COUNT!) The fast wing jacket as it is extremely lightweight but still helps keep you warm!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURTIE TRAINING ROUTE? My favourite training route is my local run around the woods of St. Ives in Bingley.

PRE-RACE MEAL OR SNACK? Before races I always make sure I have some Weetabix for breakfast on the morning of the race but don’t have any set routine of what to eat before a race but I do make sure I eat enough so I have plenty of energy for the race.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRAINING OR RACING PARTNER? I train with a group from Wharfedale Harriers so any of the lads/ladies who run for Wharfedale.
